So you just started a business, you know you need marketing for your business, and you know you need a website (or at least we hope you already know you need a website! if not, we have a little more work to do).

That is a great place to start, but what do you put on your website?!

There are five simple questions that you need to ask yourself in order to construct the perfect website for your business so that you are a success.

1. Who is your Target Audience?

The first thing that you need to determine is who will be your target audience. Thinking about your target audience is going to help you design your website. If your target audience is teenagers, then you will want to design the website around the tastes of a teenager. If the target audience is women, then you will want to use things that would interest a woman, such as tips of the day or maybe recipes.

2. What are the Website Objectives?

Next, you want to know what the objectives of your website are going to be.  Some companies simply build a website so that they are able to communicate with their customers and offer them information. Others build a website so that they can sell their products. Whatever the objectives of your website, make sure that your website is customer focused.

3. What do Your Visitors Expect?

Third, you want to know what your visitors are going to expect to see or experience on your website. This is largely going to depend both on your target audience and your business. If you sell music, your visitors are going to expect to be able to listen to music samples. If you design wedding cakes, they are going to expect to see a lot of different pictures of cakes that you have designed.  Ask yourself what your visitors are going to expect when they come to the website, and be sure that you deliver.

4. What Should Visitors Leave With?

Incoming… Questions within a question! But really, these are important. What do you want your visitors to walk away with when they leave your site? Do you want them to leave with a lot of information that they can use in their everyday life? Do you want them to leave with a positive and strong image of your company? Do you simply want them to leave saying they enjoyed your website design? Be sure that your site gives visitors what you want them to have when they leave.

5. Why Should Visitors Return?

The last of these questions you have to ask yourself is why your visitors should return to your website. What is your website offering them that will make them come back again and again? Returning visitors give you more chances to make a sale, so you want to make them want to come back. Offering loyalty discounts, updated information and daily tips are going to make people want to come back. When a website is the same every time someone visits the site, there is no reason for a person to return.

Once you have the answers to these five questions, you will find that building your website won’t be as difficult as you originally thought. Be certain that you are thinking of the needs of your customers and what they will want to see when the site is being designed. This, more than anything, will help you to be a success.
